Classroom Information and Facts
Dear Second Grade Parents,
I appreciate your interest in your child's education which is evident by your participation with our website and classroom activities. In order to maintain a positive learning environment, the following classroom management plan has been implemented in class. This means that appropriate behavior has positive consequences and inappropriate behavior has negative consequences. I set high expectations to help students be motivated, independent, responsible learners.
Rules
1. Follow Directions Quickly
2. Raise your hand for permission to speak
3. Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat
4. Make smart choices
5. Keep your dear teacher happy
Behavior Chart
If a student chooses to break a rule, the following will be enforced:
1st- Verbal warning (green card)
2nd- Student moves to work at side table/time out (yellow card)
3rd- Student loses recess/parent contacted (red card)
Homework
This year I will be sending daily homework Monday through Friday. The homework will contain a review of concepts we have covered in math and language arts (science & social studies) during the week. Please take the time to look through your child’s work.
At Home Reading Program--100 minutes (minimum) every week and must have parent signature. The reading log is part of the homework. No reading log = incomplete. Students are NOT allowed to sign or record their own minutes on the reading log. READING LOG SENT HOME MONDAY, RETURNED FOLLOWING MONDAY
· If a student chooses to return the homework incomplete on the due date he/she will receive an “incomplete” in my records. PLEASE SEND THEM TO SCHOOL WITH THE INCOMPLETE HOMEWORK TO WORK ON DURING THEIR RECESS.
· If a student chooses not to turn in the homework, and there is no written note, they will receive a “0” in my records. The homework will STILL need to be turned in the next school day.
· THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR NOT TURNING IN THE HOMEWORK!
Folder and Backpack
Your child has been provided with a homework folder that is to be taken home and returned daily. The folder will contain homework as well as other important information. Therefore, it needs to be kept in a safe and consistent space. A backpack for your child will be ideal, if possible, to ensure that your child's work is not wrinkled or ruined. I do not accept torn, wrinkled or dirty (food stains, punch etc.) homework. Check the backpack daily for notes, campus reports, and other information that may be going home.
Progress Reports
Progress reports will be given weekly only to those students that have missed assignments (including reading log) or have not made appropriate choices regarding behavior during the week. These will come home every Friday. Please sign them and return them when your child returns to school. If the progress report is not returned they will sit out their recess.
Conferences/ Parent Meeting
Conferences will be held both in this year in the Fall of 2011 and the Spring of 2012. A conference request sheet will go home two weeks before conferences are scheduled. If you are unable to attend for any reason please call La Colima so another conference could be scheduled.
If you have a question anytime during the school year please do not hesitate in contacting me. I will be more than happy to speak with you after school. If I have duty after school I will be more than happy to meet with you after my duty is over. If you are unable to wait, please stop by the office and let them know that you would like to leave me a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Absence Notes
When your student is absent for any reason, a note, phone call, or verbal notice must be made in order to clear up the absence. Otherwise, the absence will be unexcused. The note must include child’s name, name of person reporting the absence and date it is reported.
Absence Phone Calls: 562-789-7151

Students are allowed to bring a nutritious snack for the morning recess. Fruit, cheese and crackers, pretzels, ½ sandwich, fruit cups, and fruit juices are appropriate examples. Cookies, candy, Cupcakes, soda, punch, and potato chips/Takis/Flaming Hot Cheetos are NOT nutritious snacks. Students are also permitted to bring in water bottles to help stay cool in class.
Birthdays/Special Occasions:
If you would like the class to celebrate a birthday or special occasion with your child please arrange it with me ahead of time. I would be more than happy to accommodate you. With the move towards HEALTHY living, please send pencils, erasers, or a healthy alternative. Individual cupcakes will no longer be accepted. Please let me know 24 hours prior to the date if you would like to send something.
